Hi there! I started this newsletter as a way to share what I’m up to and to keep in touch with those of you who I’ve maybe had less lost contact with since quitting social media. But first, I want to take you back to 2019… It was the year that I worked on Broadway, we were expecting our first baby, AND we were majorly renovating our house. By the start of 2020, our daughter was three months old, the Broadway run had just ended, and our renovation was pretty much complete. But then, well, you know what happened next. During the early days of the pandemic I was spending an incredible amount of time online and being consumed by all of the terrible things happening in the world. My mental health was taking a nose dive but I was also becoming increasingly dependent on the dopamine hit that the infinite doom scroll was providing. It began to affect every moment of my life. So on May 15th 2022, I decided to admit that social media had finally broken my brain and I needed to jump ship. The day before, I had listened to a podcast featuring Dr Anna Lembke. She convinced me to stop using social media, and I highly recommend her book Dopamine Nation. I’ve noticed a huge reduction in my anxiety and an increase in my productivity, ability to concentrate and general happiness. I’m still chasing the dopamine high, but I’m looking in places that won’t break my brain.
